About

History, told with the real numbers.

The Investing Historian tells the story of money and markets with real historical data: the crashes, the bubbles, the booms and the long road back.

Every number on screen comes from a named source and is checked before we publish. We explain what happened, never what you should buy or sell. Each episode answers one question people already ask, such as "gold or stocks?" or "how long did 1929 take?", and shows the painful years next to the good ones.

How we work

  • One source per number. Our main dataset is described on the data and method page.
  • After inflation, always shown. A dollar in 1928 and a dollar today are not the same money.
  • The downside next to the upside. Worst years, largest falls and years under water are part of every result.
  • AI narration, human research. Our videos are narrated with an AI-generated voice. Research, scripts and fact-checking are done and approved by our editorial team.

What we never do

  • Tell anyone what to buy, sell or hold.
  • Answer questions about personal finances. We do not know your situation; a licensed professional can.
  • Accept payment from issuers of securities to feature them.
